Orb Networks | Dvreverywhere

Fun little add-on server, download your shows from anywhere, combine it with DirectShow Dump and you are golden.

If you have a capture card it’ll add a lot more remote functionality as well.

I love me some TiVo!

  1. I don’t get what DirectShow Dump does…

  2. Jake,

It converts the downloaded .TiVo file to a straight mpeg, so you can bring it on a computer that doesn’t have Tivco desktop installed, and you don’t need to pay $50 for that horrible mysonic bullshit dvd creator. Use your favorite DVD authoring tool on the .mpg instead.

And when I say convert, it’s not the normal real-time hassle either, a 600 meg tivo file usually gets down in less than 5 minutes.

  3. So, by trial and error, I’ve discovered that DVR Everywhere is simply a web-based interface that allows one to manipulate Tivo Desktop from anywhere, whilst the second app is, as Seamus says above, a way to flip the script on those .tivo files. I am still pissed that it takes forever and a day to move Tivo recordings from the box to the PC, but with Orb, you can, say, set up a bunch of transfers when you get to work, and they are ready when you get home.

I didn’t realize until just now that Tivo requires My DVD from Sonic, which I already have. I set up my Tivo network when I had my old computer, said, “Fuck it, I ain’t paying money” to make DVDs, then got a new computer with the required software. Che bella!
