I’m a frigging shill. I’m saying that ahead of time. Now that it is out of the way, let me get to the point:
Next week, the filum “Serenity” comes out. What is Serenity, you ask? How about the theater continuation of Fox’s ridiculously-cancelled Firefly series – the second best sci fi show of all time (behind the new Battlestar Galactica, which owes much of its awesomeness to Firefly’s cues). Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy and Angel, is the man behind both the series and the movie. The trailers look awesome and the show was awesome. What’s to lose?
If you’ve never seen Firefly, then shame on you. That show was off the meathook. Go get the DVDs and watch it; it’ll take less than ten hours. If, after seeing the first 3 episodes, you don’t want to go see the flick, then get an MRI, because you probably have more brain damage than I do. Even if you don’t like it, you have to admit that the ladies are worth the loot to see.
I implore you to go see this mug on opening night. Why? Because the first week’s take at the box determines how “successful” a movie is, never mind the 30 milly this mug would rake in here and overseas on DVD (Brits love Whedon). If it is considered “successful” by the powers-that-be, then Joss will get the greenlight for more Firefly shit and, possibly, a Buffy and/or Angel big screen thang. Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s movie career is doing, um, okay…so I’m sure she’d jump at the chance to star in something where she gets to stake fuckers into dust for her job.
Serenity opens September 30th. Randolph’s stadium seating would be perfect for people to make a family night of it.
I’m planning on seeing the thang twice, fer christ sake. This week I’m playing Battlestar catchup – at least I’ll finally see the miniseries. Next week, Season 1…Am I, by the way, the only person sad to see Enterprise go? Not the best show, but not the worst by any stretch of the imagination.
Psyched to see this, will have to make a rare Friday nite outing I think.
We have the DVD *and* the comic book series :-).
I saw a pre-screening last week, and will be seeing it again Tuesday. I won’t post spoilers of course. I’ll just say that it totally lived up to my very high expectations. Summer Glau’s background as a dancer added something to her character that just blew me away. Even if someone hasn’t seen the series, the movie can stand on its own as a damned good movie. Enjoy!
Yeah, I first noticed Summer as a ballerina in the episode of Angel where he went “downtown” with Cordelia (n’am sayin’?). I’m pretty sure Joss hired her specifically because of her dancing skeelz and kept her name in his kitbag for future reference, hence her role as the nutty one on Firefly.
Just caught Summer in a 1st season ep of The 4400, where she played a very similar character (i.e. a little crazy). BTW The 4400 rocks!
I really wanted to like the 4400, it was a great concept. But the episodes I’ve seen have just come across really flat to me. I did see the Summer Glau ep though, and she makes such a good crazy person.
Saw it Loved it
Just came back from Serenity – freaking amazing!! The theater parking lot was still practically empty when we got out at 4pm, guess everyone was home watching the Sox game.
P.S. – Watched another ep of The 4400 yesterday off the Mythvo, casey you need to give it another chance! 🙂
Rumor mill has it that Da Kine saw it Friday night, Satdee Night, and was trying his hardest to convince couhtney to go again on Sundee.
