Not enough time, or just lazy?

Update – I am so psyched! Because of the way I was naming my MT posts, with the entry id as the first part of the name, I was able to use a redirect to send all the old links to the new system. So if google points to kinshay.com/posts/123-some_random_post, it automatically gets sent to the new kinshay.com/text/index.php?id=123-some_random_post (the -some_random_post is not needed, but it does not interfere either.) I am loving this because now I can completely take down my mt blogs, but not lose old links. Anyone still pointing to an archiving format older than the last one is outta luck, but I’ll monitor the 404 errors and manually redirect them.

I have updated quite a few old/converted posts. I found why some were not imported, fixed the issue, and re-imported. But we currently have 733 posts. I just don’t have the time to go back and categorize them all. I don’t think anyone is really looking at them anyway, mostly they are hit from referral searches, which will link back to the old MT pages. So I could:

  1. Make a massive .htaccess file and hand code all the old url’s to the new ones (I should say before Jake finds the tools to do it, they require the standard MT archive naming convention, All my old links are way not standard.)
  2. Update all the in-post links to point to the proper places
  3. Upload and thumbnail each picture and convert it to the TXP syntax
  4. Add categories to each post

That’s a lot of work. I am far too lazy to try it, besides, I won’t have the time since I was offered a full time spot at my current gig. Yeah me! I go full time on June 1st, with full benefits and a salary I am happy with. I really love the job and the folks I am working with, so I am very happy all the way around. And I get to start working on my future with Kin-Girl. Plan is to have all debt paid off by April, 2005, All debt. Then start banking for the ring, wedding, honeymoon, and house refinance/new truck. Sounds ambitious, but I think it will work out well.
